FAQ

Q. WHO JOINS THE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE PROGRAM?

  • Research Associates come from a wide variety of backgrounds - we initiated this program for that very purpose! Some are recent college grads, others have worked in a variety of fields and want a career transition into UX Research.

  • This program is intended for those who have experience or education outside of our traditional UX Research hiring paths. It looks for those who can make a compelling case on how their background can be a strength applied within UX Research and offer our Research community a valuable perspective.

  • It is intended for people eager to learn, to apply the extra support and development, and to give back their unique research voice.

Q. HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?

  • The program is 6 months in duration, beginning in June and wrapping up in December.

  • The first month starts with Design Camp, a two-week on-boarding for those joining Facebook Design (this includes Research, Design & Content Strategy disciplines). This will be followed by two weeks of RAP-specific research curriculum and activities.

Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE PRODUCT AREAS RESEARCH ASSOCIATES HAVE WORKED ON?

  • We have invested to have the program incorporated throughout Facebook - with plans to expand to Instagram in 2018! This provides participants with powerful networking opportunities that have spanned products within teams that include:

    • NewsFeed

    • Search

    • Events

    • Civic Engagement

    • Compassion & Community Integrity

    • Ads

    • Marketplace

Q. WHAT KIND OF MENTORSHIP IS AVAILABLE TO THOSE IN THE PROGRAM?

  • Mentorship is at the core of the RAP program. Each Associate has a dedicated Mentor who works closely with them throughout the program experience. The Mentor is responsible for making sure the Associate is developing and growing in their career.

  • The RAP program also invests in coaching, mentoring, and training beyond the dedicated Mentor. We staff Coaches as additional support for the Mentors and Associates. These coaches offer guidance and troubleshooting to help each participant within the program realize potential; they also serve as culture carriers of our program's growth-mindset. The program also provides learning and development classes, internal and external speakers, and learnings from alumni as well as peers to help you grow into a successful researcher and product leader at Facebook.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROGRAM?

  • In joining the program, RAP members are Full-Time Employees and receive the Research Associate title. At the end of the 6-month program, Research Associates are expected to have achieved the level of success to meet all expectations of a Facebook researcher.

  • The Associate's performance is expected to confidently demonstrate that they can continue to meet expectations without a dedicated Mentor.

  • By demonstrating this performance, Associates go through allocation to identify the best team match based on their skills, interests, and the business needs. Priority placements will be made for interests on their current teams or teams with which they've worked closely over the course of the program.

Q. HOW DO I JOIN THE RESEARCH ASSOCIATE PROGRAM?

  • Applications for our 2020 Program will open EARLY DECEMBER 2019.
